Week ahead - July 01, 2018
Staying very warm
A few thunderstorms

Issued: 1000hrs Sunday 1st July 2018
Duty forecaster: Garry Nicholson

Mostly dry for the next week and beyond

Fairly high pressure remains in charge, although as the pattern becomes slack over the next few days there is a risk of scattered torrential thunderstorms for some places. Generally staying very warm, with increased humidity. Southern Britain will approach 30C later in the week, whilst the north and west will be relatively cooler than recent times.

Wednesday 04/07/18
Slack pressure is forecast to reside across the British Isles. Many places will be dry with plenty of sunshine. Some high level cloud. A possibility of local thunderstorms breaking out as humidity increases - these likely focused toward south & south-west England and Wales, also across the central Scottish Highlands and for Ireland too. Light winds and coastal sea breezes. Highs 24 to 28C inland, fresher on the coast.

Thursday 05/07/18
A risk that thunderstorms may break out more widely across the country, tending to drift slowly north-eastwards over the Midlands and Pennines, whilst further storms could pop up over Scotland. These may all be fairly localised, with some places catching torrential downpours, but many areas perhaps missing them completely. Light winds and sea breezes again. Hot and humid, 25 to 29C inland.

Friday 06/07/18
Scattered thunderstorms remain possible for central and north-eastern Britain. Hot and humid again for many. Perhaps a little fresher in the west as a south-westerly breeze develops. Otherwise the wind staying light. Hazy sunshine. Some coastal fog possible. The south-east may reach 30C, otherwise 24 to 28C.

Saturday 07/07/18
Most likely dry overall. Small risk of isolated thunderstorms. Cloudier skies toward the north-west as fronts try to push into Ireland and Scotland from the Atlantic, which may bring patchy rain to far western fringes. Hazy sun for many, and generally very warm and humid. Highs 24 to 30C.

Sunday 08/07/18
Pressure remains fairly high, whilst a weak front pushes across northern Britain. This brings cloud and a risk of some rain to Scotland and Northern Ireland, but most of Britain will remain dry. Hot in the south, likely topping 30C, and many places into the upper 20s. Cooler in the far north-west.

Monday 09/07/18
High pressure looks like building back toward the north-west, promoting a north-easterly breeze. Generally dry, warm and sunny, although some eastern coasts may be dull. Highs 23 to 29C.
