Unsettled next week

Issued: 0930 Thursday 24th September 2020
Duty forecaster: Simon Keeling

A cold weekend with dry weather for many, then more unsettled and less cool next week

Cool through this weekend with dry weather for many areas. Eastern coasts will always be at risk of some showers and patchy rain may affect western Ireland. Into next week conditions will be turning more unsettled as low pressure areas sweep eastwards bringing rain and strong winds with them. Turning milder in the south for a few days.

Sunday 27/09/20
A chilly start to the day with some mist and fog patches in northern and western areas as well as a touch of ground frost. Plenty of sunshine during the day and mostly dry too. Eastern parts of England will again be troubled by some showers feeding in from the sea and it is here that it will be feeling coolest. Increased cloud across western parts of Ireland bringing the threat of some patchy rain later. Highs at 10 to 14C.

Monday 28/09/20
Another cool day on Monday with some cloud and showery spots of rain affecting western parts of the UK. Eastern areas are likely to be drier and brighter with some sunny spells here at first. A band of showery rain then pushes into northern England, the Midlands, Wales and southwest England in the afternoon and evening. Broken cloud in Ireland and mostly dry once morning rain clears the east, although there could be a few showers in the far west. A little milder with highs at 13 to 17C.

Tuesday 29/09/20
A ridge of high-pressure builds across the British Isles during Tuesday. This should give a dry day with some sunny spells for most. Cloud will be increasing across Ireland bringing some rain here. Highs at 13 to 17C.

Wednesday 30/09/20
Wednesday is expected to be a more changeable day across the UK and Ireland. There will be some rain and also showers together with stronger winds. Most of the rain passes east and south in the afternoon with northern and western areas turning brighter, cooler and more showery. A cool day at 11 to 15C.

Thursday 1/10/20
Staying windy and wet on Thursday as low pressure passes through the UK and Ireland. This brings some heavy periods of rain and the risk of gales. Temperaures at 10 to 16C.

Friday 2/10/20
More rain may affect southern and eastern areas, some of this heavy. Brighter in the north and west. Highs at 11 to 17C.
