A mixed weekend then high pressure tries build to the south

Mixed conditions for the weekend, before higher pressure and largely dry weather affects the southern half of the UK and Ireland next week. It will be more unsettled further north with breezy and wet conditions here at times. Early indications are that wet conditions spread to most areas on Friday before higher pressure tries to build once more into next weekend.

Tuesday 08/09/20
Cloudy to the north and west as patchy rain spreads from west to east across Scotland, Northern Ireland, Ireland, northern England and into Wales. Brisk winds for the far north and west of Scotland too. Dry with the best of the sunshine further south and east. A mild day for most with highs at 23 or 24C in southern England, highs ranging from 17 to 21C widely with exception to northern Scotland where highs reach 13 or 14C.

Wednesday 09/09/20
Cloud and patchy light rain will affect southern England in the morning but will soon clear to allow for a dry and bright afternoon for much of England and Wales. Ireland will also see a mostly dry and fine day but with showers affecting the northwest in the morning. Sunny spells and showers over Scotland, Northern Ireland and northwest England but these should gradually fade through the afternoon. A brisk northwesterly wind should ease here too. Highs at 23C in the south of England and a cooler 14C in northern Scotland.

Thursday 10/09/20
High pressure to the southwest brings largely dry conditions to much of the UK and Ireland on Thursday. Meanwhile, a deep area of low pressure will track east across Iceland and bring strengthened winds and outbreaks of rain to northern Scotland and the Northern Isles. Showers are likely to affect western Scotland too. Highs at 20 or 21C in the southeast of England, just 13 or 14C for northern Scotland.

Friday 11/09/20
The area of low pressure over Iceland will send a rain-bearing front across Scotland, Northern Ireland and Ireland through Friday morning which reaches into northern England and Wales in the afternoon. A brisk westerly wind will blow across northern and western areas. The rest of England looks to stay dry with a good deal of sunshine. Highs ranging from 20C in the southeast to a chilly 13C further north.

Saturday 12/09/20
High pressure looks to build from the southwest once more on Saturday. Early rain and showers tend to fade into the afternoon with the exception of the far northwest of Scotland and the Northern Isles where rain could persist for much of the day. Highs range from 12 to 19C.

Sunday 13/09/20
Early indications are that higher pressure sticks around on Sunday bringing a dry and mostly sunny day to the UK and Ireland after early mist/fog patches burn off. High temperatures range from 14 to 18C.
