Potential cold next week
Staying mixed

Issued: 0900 Tuesday 30th January 2018
Duty forecaster: Dr. Simon Keeling

Staying rather mixed then potentially colder next week

Much uncertainty how the forecast develops from late Saturday onwards. We still favour the idea of colder weather developing in more eastern and southern areas, although many models disagree. Things are then expected to become drier into next week and we suspect most of the chillier weather remains i the south and east with the north and west tending to be milder.

For the weather for the next few days click here

Friday 2/2/18
Low pressure to the north of Scotland on Friday pushes fronts eastwards. These will be bringing cloud, drizzle and light rain, most through Scotland and northwest England later in the day. Generally drier in the east with some brighter weather here. Highs at 6 to 8C.

Saturday 3/2/18
Low pressure to the north of Scotland on Saturday as a front passes eastwards. This brings periods of rain, some heavy on the hills and turning wintry in the north. Brighter weather will be following from the west, but showers associated with this brighter weather too. The showers heaviest on western hills and coasts. Staying windy for all. Highs at 5 to 8C.

Sunday 4/2/18
Much uncertainty in the forecast for Sunday. There is the risk of a front becoming slowly moving in eastern parts of England bringing cloud rain, but this turning to sleet and perhaps wet snow. Western areas tending to be drier and brighter with a few showers. However, confidence is low with highs at 3 to 7C.

Monday 5/2/18
Higher pressure building into the country on Monday as a cold northeast flow develops in England and Wales. This brings sunny spells, the best in the west but a few showers in the east. Milder with some drizzle in western Scotland. Highs at 4 to 8C.

Tuesday 6/2/18
High pressure across Ireland and the southern half of the UK. A weak front brings some showery outbreaks of rain across central nd northern England, Wales and Ireland. Brighter and colder to the south. Milder with a mix of sunny spells and scattered showers in Scotland, most in the north and west. Highs at 8C in Scotland, 4C in southern England.

Wednesday 7/2/18
A ridge of high pressure is maintained across the UK and Ireland on Wednesday. This brings plenty of dry weather in England and Wales as well as eastern Ireland, although with a fair amount of cloud. Some drizzle and patchy rain affecting northern and western Scotland. Highs at 9C in Scotland, 5C in southern England.
