A cold weekend then becoming damp and murky next week as temperatures start to rise

A colder weekend ahead as high pressure temporarily builds to the east of the country. This allows for an east to northeast wind to develop, strong in the south. Into the new week milder air tries to come back into the west bringing cloud, drizzle and some rain, although the east stays drier. By the end of the week conditions do look set to be milder for all, although staying cloudy.

Monday 8/1/18
High pressure centred over Scandinavia on Monday with a strong and cold east to southeast wind affecting the UK and Ireland. There will be broken cloud in many southern areas with a few spots of rain here. Variable cloud further north and east with some sunny spells. Feeling cold for all. Highs at 3 to 6C.

Tuesday 9/1/18
High pressure remains to the east with low pressure to the west. Increasingly cloudy conditions in Ireland with some outbreaks of drizzle here, these perhaps spreading to western coasts of the UK. More eastern areas have broken cloud with a few bright spells and should be mainly dry. Highs at 5 to 7C.
 

Wednesday 10/1/18
Lower pressure to the west of the UK and Ireland on Wednesday. This brings more cloud and some outbreaks of drizzle and rain, mostly to the north and west. Rather murky for all with lots of low cloud and temperatures at 5 to 10C.

 
 
 

Thursday 11/1/18
Uncertainty in the detail of the forecast from Thursday. There is likely to be some outbreaks of rain, most in the west, although eastern areas may be drier. Highs at 5 to 8C.

Friday 12/1/18
Confidence remains low in the forecast for Friday. Cloud and rain in western parts of the UK, but to the east higher pressure will be closer by bringing some drier weather here, but also cloud. Highs at a cooler 5C in the east, 9C in the west.

Saturday 13/1/18
Lower pressure brings some outbreaks of rain through Saturday, again most in the west. Less rain in the east although staying cloudy here. Highs at 5 to 9C.
