Mixed with varying temperatures, perhaps drier in the south for a few days next week

Mixed conditions through the coming week. There are hints of some cooler weather towards the weekend, but then turning milder through late Saturday and into Sunday. Drier weather in the southern half of the UK and Ireland early next week as a ridge of high pressure builds, but some rain in the north. Hints of turning cooler by mid to late in the week with the northwest wind returning.

Saturday 26/1/18
A murky day on Saturday as front edges in from the west bringing cloud and outbreaks of rain and drizzle. Most of the rain will be falling in the western parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland as well as northwest England. More eastern and southern areas of England and Wales may have some brightness at first, but this soon disappearing as cloud increases form the west. Feeling cold in the east at first, but milder air arrives from the west. Highs at 7C in the east, 11C in the west.


Sunday 28/1/18
A front moves northeast through the UK and Ireland on Sunday. This brings cloud and outbreaks of drizzle and rain to western and northern parts of Ireland as well as Scotland. Western coasts of England and Wales could have low cloud and some drizzle too. Elsewhere it is likely to ge brighter through the day with sunny spells forming, the best in the east and south. A fresh west to southwest wind with highs at a very mild 10 to 14C.


Monday 29/1/18
Low pressure passing close to northern Scotland may bring some gales here on Monday. A front becomes slow moving across Ireland, northern England and southern Scotland giving cloud and outbreaks of rain. Southern areas of England and Wales should be drier and brighter with sunny spells. Cooler air and a few showers with sunny spells moving into central and northern Scotland. Highs at 6C in northern Scotland, 13C in southern England.


Tuesday 30/1/18
A mainly westerly flow persists into Tuesday with a further front passing east. This brings some cloud and rain to many, slowly clearing east. Winds may pick up again later with more rain arriving in western Scotland. Highs at 5 to 8C.


Wednesday 31/1/18
Low pressure may pass into the North Sea on Wednesday, introducing a colder northwesterly airflow. This brings a mix of sunshine and showers. The showers turning wintry in the north, but then a risk of sleet and snow showers further south later. Highs at 3 to 7C.

Thursday 1/2/18
Thursday may be a chilly day again with an areas of heavier rain, sleet and snow slipping south through all areas with an area of low pressure. Becoming windy. Highs at 2 to 7C.
