A cool week
Most rain in west

Issued: 0900 Saturday 6th January 2017
Duty forecaster: Dr. Simon Keeling

A cold weekend then becoming damp and murky next week as temperatures start to rise

A chilly spell of weather ahead as cold air to the east and mild air to the west do battle. Rain affects Ireland and the far west of the UK at times, although less in eastern areas. Tending to be rather cloudy for many during the week with temperatures varying but generally being below average.

Tuesday 9/1/18
High pressure remains to the east with low pressure to the west. Increasingly cloudy conditions with some outbreaks of drizzle and rain in the west, the heaviest in Ireland. A few spots of drizzle to the east as well but mostly dry here although cloudier. Highs at 5 to 7C.

Wednesday 10/1/18
Lower pressure to the west of the UK and Ireland on Wednesday. This brings more cloud and some outbreaks of drizzle and rain, mostly to the north and west. Rather murky for all with lots of low cloud and temperatures at 5 to 9C.

Thursday 11/1/18
A ridge of higher pressure is expected to be building through the UK and Ireland on Thursday. This probably allows for rather a misty or even foggy start. Some patchy rain in eastern and southern areas. Probably turning brighter during the day from the west with temperatures around a cooler 3 to 6C.

Friday 12/1/18
Cloud and rain in western parts of the UK and Ireland on Friday with stronger winds here as fronts push in from the Atlantic. Higher pressure to the east will bring drier weather here with some brighter spells. Highs at 4C in the east, 9C in the west.

Saturday 13/1/18
Lower pressure brings some outbreaks of rain through Saturday, again most in the west and also in Scotland and northern England. Less rain in the east although cloudy here. Highs at 5 to 8C.

Sunday 14/1/18
Murky on Sunday with some cloud and outbreaks of drizzle and rain, although drier in a few areas too. Any rain tends to fade through the day. However, windier weather in Ireland may see further rain here. Highs at 4 to 8C.
