Turning colder at the weekend and into next week with a risk of sleet and snow

Indications of falling temperatures next week bringing much colder conditions. There is an increasing risk of some sleet by the weekend with damp and cold conditions dominating. There is a risk of some sleet and snow next week with temperatures below average for all. Note that there is still some uncertainty in the detail.

Saturday 3/2/18
Low pressure to the north of Scotland on Saturday as a front passes eastwards. This brings periods of rain, some heavy on the hills and turning wintry in the north. Brighter weather will be following from the west, but showers associated with this brighter weather too. Rain may not clear eastern areas. A cold day with tops at 4 to 7C.


Sunday 4/2/18
Despite a ridge of high pressure building through Ireland and the north and west of the UK on Sunday, a weak front will be affecting central, southern and eastern areas. Coud and outbreaks of sleet associated with the front with snow on hills. Cold, damp and cloudy in these areas. Brighter to the north and west. Highs at 7C in Ireland but 3 to 5C in the UK.
 


Monday 5/2/18
Pressure stays high on Monday. There will be broken cloud and some outbreaks of showery rain in much of England and Wales. The best of any sunshine to the north and west. More persistent rain arrives in western Scotland and western Ireland later. Staying cold with highs at 3 to 6C.
 


Tuesday 6/2/18
There is a risk of a front edging through northern and western parts of the UK and Ireland on Tuesday. This brings the threat of some sleet and snow as it edges eastwards with all areas being cold. More eastern areas tending to stay dry with some bright spells. Highs at 1 to 5C.


Wednesday 7/2/18
A weakening front over England and Wales may bring some cloud and further outbreaks of sleet and snow on Wednesday. Brighter in Scotland and much of Ireland but staying cold. Highs at 2 to 4C.

Thursday 8/2/18
Another fronts brings cloud and rain into western Scotland and Ireland on Thursday. There could be some snow or sleet flurries in southeast England too. Elsewhere it is likely to be brighter. Highs at 2 to 6C.
