Windy, showers
Gales in west

Thursday
A windy day for Thursday. There will be some bright or sunny spells, the best of them to the east. Frequent, heavy showers will be affecting western and northern parts of the country and there will be a risk of hail and thunder. Little change is expected into the afternoon, although an area of more persistent showers and rain will be crossing Ireland and western Scotland by the evening. Highs at 6 to 10C.

Thursday Night
A windy night with showers continuing to affect many areas, especially western coasts and hills. The winds will be heavy at times. Sleet and snow will affect the hills of Scotland. More persistent rain arrives in western Ireland in the early hours of the morning, this moving eastwards during the rest of the night before reaching west Wales and western England by daybreak. Gales in the west and north. Lows near 3 to 7C.

Friday
The strong to gale force westerly flow remains through the whole of the UK and Ireland on Friday. An occluded front passes east in the morning bringing rain to Wales and southwest England, then through the rest of England late morning, before clearing east. This is followed by brighter weather with sunny spells and showers. The showers could be heavy again on western coasts and hills. Heavy showers throughout the day in northern and western Scotland with these being wintry over high ground. Further showers in Ireland, fewer in the east, although increased cloud brings rain to the west later. Highs at 7 to 10C.

Saturday
Low pressure is north of Scotland again on Saturday. Rain for all overnight and breezy too. These should clear eastern coasts on Saturday morning to be followed by a mix of sunshine and showers. The showers will be heaviest in the west with a risk of hail and thunder. The showers could turn wintry over hills too. Highs at 6 to 9C.
