Some rain
Very warm, hot

Issued: 0900hrs Tuesday 4th August 2020
Duty forecaster: Alexi Venerus

A mixed week with some heavy rain in the north. Dry for all at the weekend, before a thundery breakdown occurs next week.

It will be a rather unsettled and wet week for the north and west before high pressure becomes more establihsed over the UK and Ireland at the weekend. Next week looks like a thundery breakdown will occur as an area of low pressure develops and pushes northwards.

Friday 07/08/20
A largely dry and fine day with plenty of sunshine across central and southern England although the southwest could see cloudier skies and the odd spot of rain at times. Feeling very warm or even hot in those high temperatures, particularly in the southeast. The north and west, however, will be under more cloudy skies with some showery outbreaks of rain. Longer spells of rain will push across Ireland and Northern Ireland before clearing and affecting western mainland Scotland later on. Temperatures in low 30s across southern and eastern England and highs around 23C further north and 21C over Ireland and Northern Ireland.

Saturday 08/08/20
High pressure is expected to build in over the UK allowing for a mostly dry, fine and very warm day ahead once spells of rain clear over northern Scotland. There is also the risk of cloudier skies and patchy light rain in the far southeast corner of England during the morning. Highs at 31C in the south and southeast, highs of 25C further north and 20C over Scotland and Ireland.

Sunday 09/08/20
High pressure becomes established over the British Isles allowing for a dry and fine day for all places with plenty of sunshine about. There is just the risk of some isolated showers developing over Ireland and southern Scotland later on however. Temperatures a tad cooler today as a northerly wind direction comes about with highs of 26C in the south and 19C further north.

Monday 10/08/20
High pressure still in charge for the start of the new week, however, low pressure over France will see cloud build across the far south of England bringing with it the risk of some heavy rain, possbly thundery, to southern coastal counties later on. Highs of 25C in the south and 18C further north.

Tuesday 11/08/20
Tuesday currently look to be unsettled across much of England, Wales and eastern parts of Ireland as outbreaks of rain, some heavy and possibly thundery, push northwards through the day. In contrast, Northern Ireland, Scotland and western Ireland should fair better with sunny spells and largely dry conditions. Highs of 24C in the south and 18C further north.

Wednesday 12/08/20
By midweek the UK and Ireland will be under a trough which will see unsettled conditions set in for most places bringing outbreaks of rain, possibly heavy and thundery for some. There is the chance that western Ireland and northwest Scotland will see the best of any sunshine and could miss out on any rain altogether. However there is much uncertainty in this at this stage. Highs of 25C in the south and 19C further north.
