Week ahead - August 07, 2020
Hot and humid
Thundery showers later

Issued: 0900 Friday 7th August 2020
Duty forecaster: Alexi Venerus

Hot temperatures for the south and warm further north. Thundery showers will occur later with the continued heat.

It will be hot across southern England in the coming days with temperatures into the 30's every day. Warm elsewhere too. With high pressure attempting to build in each day there will be plenty of dry conditions to be had, although with this building and continued heat and humidity do expect thundery and heavy rain, particularly in the south and later on.

Monday 10/8/20
With low pressure over England it will be a largely cloudy day for many across the UK and Ireland. Sunshine does look to creep in though over western Ireland, southwest England and southern Wales by the end of the day. Plenty of dry conditions about in the west with just some scattered showers, however, outbreaks of thundery rain look to spread northwards across eastern regions through the day. Highs will range from 20C in the north and 32C in the far southeast.

Tuesday 11/8/20
Thundery rain affecting eastern parts should clear first thing to allow for a day of some sunny spells but also showers to develop again, this time across central areas of the UK. Ireland and Northern Ireland will see the best of the sunshine and drier conditions as a ridge builds in from the west. Hot still in the south and southeast with highs at 32C. Highs at 21C further north.

Wednesday 12/8/20
With high pressure building in from the west it will be a largely dry and fine day for many, although do expect some showers to develop in places across England and Scotland, possibly thundery, in the afternoon. Detail on where these will occur is difficualt at this stage. There is also the potential for some heavy and thundery showers to move up from France and affect southern counties at the end of the day. Highs at 21C in northern Scotland, 31C in southern England.

Thursday 13/8/20
Thundery rain is expected to push up England and Wales and move into Ireland through the day. Possibly allowing for mist in places and fog over the higher ground under these conditions. Currently looking to be a drier day in the north. Highs at 20 to 25C.

Friday 14/8/20
Some thundery rain still in force across southern England and possibly into south Wales, but largely dry with sunny spells elsewhere. There is the risk of some scattered showers developing across northern areas during the afternoon however. Highs at 21 to 25C.

Saturday 15/8/20
High pressure generally still looks to be in charge although thundery rain could continue to affect southern regions of England by the weekend. Drier further north, however, there is the potential for low pressure to creep in and bring outbreaks of rain to northern parts of Ireland, Northern Ireland and northern Scotland. Highs range from 20 to 24C.
