Humid south, fresh north

Mixed westerlies continue for the week ahead. A humid air mass will often influence southern Britain, with some warm days in the south-east. Rain at times for the north & west, where it stays fairly cool. Only small amounts of rain for south-eastern counties, and many days staying dry.

Monday 20/08/18
A general westerly pattern across Britain. Weak fronts will bring a lot of cloud and patchy rain or drizzle, mostly affecting the west & north-west. Brightest skies toward the east & south, with some sunshine. Western Scotland may see steadier rain for a few hours. Winds fairly light, but a westerly breeze is likely to strengthen for northern regions of Britain & Ireland. Cool north-west at 15 to 18C, but humid south, highs 22 to 26C.

Tuesday 21/08/18
An ongoing southwesterly pattern into midweek. Mostly cloudy skies again for the north & west. Patchy drizzly rain in the west, but rain may become more persistent for Ireland and western Scotland. Generally dry toward the south & east, with occasional sun. A light west to southwesterly breeze. Staying humid in the south with highs 23 to 27C, but fresh in the north-west, nearer 15 to 18C.

Wednesday 22/08/18
A band of rain is likely to move slowly south-eastwards across Scotland, northern England and Ireland. Patchy rain or drizzle for west Wales and perhaps south-west England. Dry with hazy sun for the Midlands and south-east England. The far north of Scotland may brighten up with scattered showers. A fresh west to southwesterly breeze. Up to 27C in the south-east, 22 to 25C central England, 15 to 18C Scotland.

Thursday 23/08/18
A weak cold front slips south across England, resulting in cloudy skies and some rain, but should fade. Brighter skies and sunny spells for Scotland and Northern Ireland. Drizzly showers toward the north-west. Light winds. Highs 16 to 26C, warmest south-east and feeling humid.

Friday 24/08/18
A fresh westerly breeze is likely. Sunshine and showers. Rain most frequent toward the north-west. Mainly dry southern England. Cooler for all, highs 15 to 22C.

Saturday 25/08/18
A westerly pattern continues. Further occasional rain or showers, mostly in the north-west. Breezy. Warmest in the south, highs 16 to 23C.
