Issued: 1000hrs Friday 10th August 2018
Duty forecaster: Garry Nicholson

Temperature contrasts north-west to south-east

Low pressure influences the British Isles this weekend, bringing rain to most places at some point, most widely on Sunday, whilst Saturday should escape mainly dry for central, east & northern areas. Next week sees a series of frontal systems move in from the Atlantic, bringing periods of rain, wettest in the north-west. Cool in the north-west, but becoming warm and humid again in the south.

Monday 13/08/18
Low pressure pulls away toward the east, but leaves fairly unsettled conditions across Britain. Areas of showery rain, which in places could merge into rain for a few hours, focused toward the east & north-east. West & south-western areas often dry, with cloud breaking to give sunny spells. A cool west to northwesterly breeze. Temperatures 15C or below in rain, but highs up to 19 to 23C or locally warmer south.

Tuesday 14/08/18
Pressure briefly builds in the south, but another frontal system is likely to move across northern regions of Britain and Ireland, bringing a threat of further rain. Scattered showers elsewhere, but many central and southern regions should be dry and bright much of the day. A west to south-westerly breeze, strongest in the north. Highs 16 to 19C north, 20 to 24C south, warmest south-east.

Wednesday 15/08/18
A mixed west to south-westerly pattern is expected, with rain fopcused on the west & north, likely setting in for several hours. Drier and brighter toward the east and south, with occasional rain developing. Breezy. Warming up in the south, feeling humid. Temperatures ranging from 15 to 18C north/west, up to 24C in the Midlands, and 26 to 28C south-east.

Thursday 16/08/18
Most likely staying changeable, with rain focused toward the north & west, but may spread into central and southern areas as weakening fronts slip southwards. Warm and humid ahead of rain in the south-east. Highs 15 to 19C north, 23 to 28C south.

Friday 17/08/18
Probably little overall change, with rain or showers north & west, but mostly dry weather south & east. Temperatures ranging from 16 to 27C.

Saturday 18/08/18
It is likely that frontal rain will continue to affect the north & west, possibly becoming more widespread again. Largely dry in the south. Highs 15 to 26C.
