Elsewhere there will be broken cloud and some brighter skies, perhaps some mist and fog patches at first in western England and Wales. Best sunshine in Ireland. This afternoon sees rain clearing southeastern areas. Showers continue in northern and western Scotland, these wintry on hills. Dry for most other areas, the best of any sunshine to the west, just a low risk of a shower in northwest England. Highs at 4 to 6C for most, 8C in southeast England.

Tuesday Night
Skies tending to become clearer for many overnight into Wednesday. There is a risk of some showers over southern coasts of England and perhaps in the far west of Scotland too. Under the clearer skies a frost will be forming, mostly north and west. Temperatures milder in the southeast. Lows near 0C for much of northern England, the Midlands, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, closer to 3C in southern England and southern Ireland.

Wednesday
A weak ridge of high pressure in the east on Wednesday morning bringing a fair start to the day with good spells of sunshine. To the west winds will be increasing, as will cloud. Rain pushing into Ireland through the morning and afternoon, this rain turning heavy as low pressure positions itself west of Ireland. The rain may reach west Wales and southwest Wales by evening. Gales in the west later. Highs at 4C in Scotland and northern England, 11C in southwest England and southern Ireland, 7 to 9C for most other parts.

Thursday
Low pressure remains west of Ireland on Thursday. Fronts passing eastwards taking heavy periods of rain with them. A tendency towards brighter weather in Ireland and western Scotland later, although there is a chance of heavy showers in eastern Ireland, Wales and western Scotland. Staying wet into the afternoon over much of central and eastern England. Highs at 7 to 12C.
