Cold and wet
Snow over higher ground

Saturday
A very messy situation on Saturday as low pressure remains dominant over the UK and Ireland. There will be spells of rain, sleet and snow over northern England, Wales and much of western and southern Scotland. Some of the snow could fall at low levels although accumulations at low levels are unlikely. Drier in some central and eastern areas though a further area of rain, sleet and snow arrives to the southwest of Ireland later. Cold for all with highs at 3 to 7C for most, perhaps reaching 9 or 10C to the far southwest.

Saturday Night
A band of heavy rain sweeps eastward across Wales and England through Saturday night, falling as snow over higher ground and to lower levels over northern parts of England. Wintry showers follow to the west for western coasts and hills of Ireland, Scotland, Wales and southwestern Ireland while clearer skies develop over eastern areas. Overnight lows widely at -1 to 4C, milder to the far south.

Sunday
A southwest flow across the UK and Ireland on Sunday which brings further showers to the west and south, some of these will be heavy over western Scotland and northwestern Ireland. The showers will be wintry over western hills and coasts, a risk of blizzard conditions on hills in heavier showers. Eastern areas will be bright and mostly dry after overnight heavy showers have cleared. A risk of some heavier rain developing for south-central England later. Highs at 2 to 7C for most, 8 or 9C to the far southeast.

Monday
Low pressure is to the northeast of the UK on Monday. This brings outbreaks of rain to western Ireland, western Scotland and later in to southern Wales and southwest England. Some wintry showers over the hills of Scotland and the hills of southern Ireland. Tending to be drier in central and eastern areas, although a threat of rain in the southeast later. Highs widely at 3 to 8C, 9 or 10C to the far southeast and southwest.
