A warm week ahead with most rain in western areas

A warm week with temperatures getting close to summer-time values in the next couple of days. Severe gales in western parts of the UK and Ireland on Friday, then staying windy and wet into start of the weekend. Remaining mixed next week with some cooler weather arriving to the west.

Friday 12/10/18
A deep area of low pressure passes to the west of Ireland on Friday. This brings an area of severe gales into much of the UK, mostly in the west where gusts could be to 70mph. There will be some heavy periods of rain too, again most of these in the west. Inland gales are likely too. Eastern areas of England are likely to be drier, although there may be rain later. Highs at 14 to 18C.

Saturday 13/10/18
Low pressure over Ireland on Saturday. This brings a windy and unsettled day with heavy rain affecting western and northern areas. Drier in the east of England with sunny spells, but cloud then increasing in the afternoon with rain by the evening. Highs at 23C in southeast England, 13C in western Ireland.

 

Sunday 14/10/18
Low pressure passes through Scotland on Sunday. Rain clears from the east with a mix of sunshine and showers then following together with cooler weather. The showers could be heavy and prolonged in western Scotland and Ireland. Highs at 15C in southeast England, 10C in western Scotland.
 

Monday 15/10/18
A ridge of high pressure brings a fair start to the day with sunny spells. Cloud and rain spreading to Ireland and the west of the UK as a front arrives. Winds increasing too. Highs at 13 to 18C.

Tuesday 16/10/18
Low pressure north of Scotland on Tuesday. A front bringing rain into England, Wales and Ireland, most in the west. Brighter in Scotland with sunshine and scattered showers. The risk of some patchy rain in southern England too. Highs at 13 to 20C.

Wednesday 17/10/18
The flow stays southwesterly through Wednesday. This brings a further threat of some cloud and rain in the west but drier in eastern areas with sunny spells. A mild day at 14 to 19C.
