Very mild and windy, rain at times then cooler next week

The mixed weather continues through the coming week. It is ging to be exceptionally mild for some into the New Year with periods of rain and drizzle for many. Tending to become cooler next week with a risk of some brief, wintry showers in many areas.

New Year's Day 1/1/22
Low pressure northwest of Ireland on New Year's Day. This brings a very mild and breezy start to 2022. Periods of rain and drizzle in the west, the heaviest of it in western Scotland. Tending to be drier in the east. Highs at 13 to 15C.

 
 
 

Sunday 2/1/22
Low pressure dominates on Sunday. This brings periods of rain for many areas, possibly heavy at times as a further shallow area of low pressure quickly crosses the country. It is likely to be breezy too. After starting very mild, slightly cooler air arrives from the west. Highs at a very mild 8 to 13C.

Monday 3/1/22
Another area of low pressure slipping into Scotland on Monday. This brings rain, some turning to sleet and snow over the hills towards evening. Sunny spells and scattered showers elsewhere, most of them in the west. Another breezy day. Highs at 6C in northern Scotland, 10C in southern England.

Tuesday 4/1/22
A colder day on Tuesday with low pressure to the south of the country and a north to northeasterly flow developing for all. This brings a mix of sunshine and showers, the showers falling as sleet and snow at times. There is also a risk of a band of more persistent sleet and snow passing south through northern England, into Wales, central and southern England during the day. Highs at 2 to 6C.

Wednesday 5/1/22
A ridge of high pressure builds on Wednesday bringing a dry and frosty start to the day. Cloud increasing from the west as a warm front moves in from the Atlantic bringing drizzle and rain in west preceded by snow over Scottish hills and the Pennines. Highs at 4C in the east, 11C in the west.

Thursday 6/1/22
A windy day for all with gales to the north and west. Sunny spells and dry in the east but showers in the west.The showers wintry in northern and western Scotland with severe gales here too. Highs at 2 to 9C.
