Week ahead - February 07, 2019
Wet and windy at times
Dry and bright interludes

Issued: 0900 Thursday 7th February 2019
Duty forecaster: Claire Darbinyan

Next week sees a mixture of weather as neither high pressure or low pressure dominates

Throughout next week high pressure is generally located to the southeast while low pressure is to the northwest. Occasionally high pressure builds across the UK and Ireland to give some dry and bright days while it recedes on other days allowing frontal systems to bring spells of wet and windy weather. Temperatures generally close to or above average for the time of year.

Sunday 10/02/19
A mixed day with low pressure sweeping east. A front brings rain and strong winds to the southern UK first thing which clears away to the southeast through the morning while a second front moves into Northern Ireland and Scotland bringing further rain and strong winds as well as colder temperatures. The rain could be heavy at times and may turn wintery on higher ground. High temperatures at 4 to 7C.

Monday 11/02/19
A ridge of high pressure builds over the UK and Ireland on Monday. This brings a mostly dry and bright day with a widespread frost first thing. Light drizzly rain may affect western coasts throughout the day. High temperatures at 3 to 7C.

Tuesday 12/02/19
High pressure recedes over the southern UK on Tuesday allowing fronts to affect the island of Ireland and Scotland. These fronts will bring light but persistent rain to western areas and high winds. A fair day for much of England and Wales, but low cloud and drizzle could reach northern England and parts of Wales. Highs at 6 to 10C.

Wednesday 13/02/19
A weak front may bring some cloud and outbreaks of light rain or drizzle through England and Wales on Wednesday morning before high pressure builds once more. Rather misty too. Drier in Scotland but always a fair amount of cloud with mist and drizzle over western coasts and hills. Highs at 7 to 12C.

Thursday 14/02/19
Pressure is high again to the south and east on Thursday, lower to the north and west. A dry day for many with the best of any sunshine in the east. Western areas tending to be breezier with some cloud and outbreaks of rain here. Highs at 6 to 12C.

Friday 15/02/19
Friday starts wet and windy as a cold front moves to the southeast across the UK. Behind this front is cooler air with a mixture of sunny spells and scattered showers. High temperatures at 6 to 10C.
