A change of regime next week as low pressure becomes dominant

A succession of low pressure systems will track to the north of the UK through next week sending a series of fronts across the country that will bring rain, some of it heavy, for western areas and high winds at times. Temperatures will gradually rise through the week becoming very mild by next weekend.

Wednesday 06/02/19
Low pressure is off to the northwest on Wednesday bringing a mixed day of sunny spells and showers. Showers will be mainly focussed in western areas and the southeast of England. Parts of Scotland could see these showers merging to form more prolonged spells of rain and they may turn wintry over higher ground. Breezy for the island of Ireland and western Scotland. Highs at 4 to 9C.

Thursday 07/02/19
Another unsettled day on Thursday as low pressure remains dominant. A westerly airstream will lead to a rather overcast day for most of the country with the exception of the southeast of England where it should remain dry and bright. Western areas could see persistent rain throughout the day while some showers could reach eastern parts of Scotland and northern England. Another windy day for northern and western areas. High temperatures at 5 to 8C.

Friday 08/02/19
Mixed again on Friday as an area of low pressure over the North Atlantic extends a trough over western parts of the UK and Ireland. A mostly cloudy day across the country while a band of rain will move across Ireland through the morning and across much of Wales, Scotland and England through the afternoon. Northeastern parts of Scotland and southeast England may remain dry and bright. Windy again for Ireland and Irish Sea coasts. Highs at 6 to 10C.

Saturday 09/02/19
Saturday sees the continuation of the unsettled theme as further fronts bring heavy rain and showers to the UK and Ireland. A mostly cloudy day with the heaviest rain for western Scotland, northwest England and southeast England. High temperatures at 5 to 11C.

Sunday 10/02/19
Very windy on Sunday with the potential for gales across much of the country as the wind backs slightly to come from the southwest. A cloudy day with some very heavy rainfall for southwestern Ireland, Wales and the Lake District. Highs at 5 to 12C.

Monday 11/02/19
Low pressure continues to dominate our weather on Monday bringing another cloudy day with heavy rain for western parts of Scotland. High temperatures at 7 to 13C.
