UK Forecast - December 21, 2021
Rain and hill snow north
Dry and milder south

Wednesday
Dry at first for many areas on Wednesday, albeit with plenty of cloud. Remaining cool with a slight north to northwesterly breeze. A band of rain and hill snow will push in from the west, reaching Northern Ireland by late morning and Western Scotland by early afternoon. This will give some slight accumulations to higher ground in Scotland, although likely to remain as rain for lower lying areas. Some rain for western coasts of Wales and England too during the afternoon, but tending to stay dry but cool further east across the midlands and eastern england. Temperatures of 4 to 6C for England and Wales, and 1 to 4C across much of Scotland, with the coldest temperatures in the far north.

Wednesday Night
The rain band will push further east but fragmenting as it does so, leaving some light rain or drizzle for Northern England, and some heavier bursts are possible in eastern Scotland for a time. A heavier band of rain moves into Western Scotland overnight, with a band of rain across southwestern england and western parts of wales too, but tending to remain dry but cloudy elsewhere. Temperatures staying fairly constant overnight, with lows of 3 to 6C for England and Wales, and 0 to 4C across Scotland.

Thursday
Rain clears Northern Ireland during the morning and continues across western and northern Scotland, with some heavier bursts at times and perhaps some snow on higher ground, although south of here should remain reasonably dry but with lots of cloud. There may be the odd break in the cloud during the afternoon across western areas of Wales and southwest england. Winds will be a little stronger than on Wednesday, with some strong gusts possible in northwest Scotland. Temperatures much milder due to the presence of Atlantic air, highs of 8 to 12C across England, 6 to 9C across Scotland.

Friday
A band of rain moves in from the southwest during the morning and afternoon, reaching most parts of England and Wales. This will tend to fragment as it pushes further north, and possibly a wintry mix of rain, sleet and snow for higher parts of the pennines and Northern England later on Friday. It will be a more blustery day, with the chance of the odd cloud break outside of the rain band across western parts. Staying reasonably mild at lower levels, particularly in southern england, with highs of 8 to 11C here, but tending to get progressively colder the further north you go, with highs of 3 to 7C for Scotland.
