Low pressure in the North Sea on Wednesday morning. Cold and windy for all. Some showers or longer spells of rain in northern and eastern Scotland where there will be sleet and snow. Becoming brighter for other areas with some sunny spells. Showers affecting western areas, a few of them heavy and again becoming wintry on the hills in Scotland. Scattered showers further west and south, although a few could be heavy over the hills of Wales and the Midlands. Becoming colder through the day with highs at 4C in northern Scotland, 9C in southern England.

Wednesday Night
A cold and breezy night. There will be wintry showers around western and northern Scotland as well as eastern Scotland. There will be further sleet and snow showers affecting eastern coasts of England and East Anglia, a risk of a covering of snow here and there. Fair in the west and dry overall, although some wintry showers in southwest Wales and the far southwest of England. Drier for other areas. Lows near -3C in central Scotland, more widely 0 to 2C.

Thursday
Low pressure east of the British Isles on Thursday, a ridge of high pressure building into the west. The cold, northerly flow will be bringing some wintry showers over eastern coasts of Scotland and England, a few penetrating inland. The ridge of high pressure to the west will be bringing drier and brighter weather here with some good spells of sunshine after a morning frost. More rain arrives through western Ireland later in the day, this reaching western Scotland in the evening. Highs at 2 to 5C for most, 7C in the west.

Friday
An occluded front clears east on Friday morning taking some outbreaks of rain with it. A ridge of high pressure follows from the west bringing broken cloud and some sunny spells as well as dry conditions. Increasing cloud later in the day again through western Ireland as a warm front approaches giving some drizzle and outbreaks of rain. Highs at 5 to 9C.
