High pressure is to the south-east, promoting a mild south to southwesterly airflow across the country. A lot of cloud and murk, with hill fog widespread in the west and north. Drizzly and damp. Some sunshine may break through in southern England, also locally in the east and north-east. Winds mostly light. Rain for north-west Scotland is likely to persist. Highs 8 to 11C.


Boxing Day night
Generally murky with fog and low cloud, plus patchy drizzle. A damp atmosphere with little wind. Some steady rain for north-west Scotland. Local clearer spells possible toward the east. Staying frost free for most, with lowest temperatures typically 5 to 7C, perhaps locally 3C in low-lying rural areas.
 


Thursday
Slack high pressure influences the British Isles. Areas of low cloud and fog, in places persistent all day. Some sunshine breaking through in the south and east. A little drizzle in the west and north-west, persistently damp much of the day, but rainfall amounts small. Winds mostly light. Mild, top temperatures 7 to 11C, but cooler if fog lingers.
 


Friday
A trough of low pressure and fronts will move across Scotland and northern England bringing a period of rain followed by showers, clearing from the west as pressure rebuilds later. A little rain for Wales and the Midlands. Largely dry for the south and east. Sunshine breaking through for Ireland. Breezy in the north, gusty westerly winds. Highs 7 to 11C.
