Christmas Eve
High pressure is dominant through Christmas Eve bringing clear skies and a fine day for many central areas though there will be some cloud around in the south and west where a weak trough persists. Cloudy too in the northeast. Any lingering showers in the south will becoming increasingly confined to the southwest as the day progresses. Winds will be light for all. High temperatures will range from 3 to 6C for Scotland and northern England, 5 to 7C for Northern Ireland and central England and 7 to 11C for Wales and southern England.

Christmas Eve Night
It will be a dry and clear night for many though southwestern and northeastern areas will stay cloudy. There will be some mist and fog around, particularly in western areas while widespread groundfrost is likely for Scotland and northern and central parts of England. Overnight lows falling to -1 to 2C for Scotland and the northern two-thirds of England, 4 to 5C more typical elsewhere. Under cloudy skies in the southwest overnight lows may stay in double digits.

Christmas Day
High pressure centred to the south-east of Britain promotes a fairly mild south to southwesterly airflow across the country. It will be a generally dry day but with a lot of cloud. Early mist and fog is possible. The best of any sunny spells will be in the east. A little drizzly rain may move into western fringes of Ireland and western Scotland later. High temperatures at 4 to 6C for Scotland and northern and central England, 9 to 10C for Northern Ireland and 7 to 12C for Wales and southern England.

Boxing Day
High pressure is off to the southeast keeping the British Isles in a rather mild southwesterly airflow. It will be a rather grey and dull day with a chance of drizzle or light rain for northwestern parts of Scotland. Across Scotland, Northern Ireland, northern parts of England and Wales there is a risk of fog that may persist through the day. Light winds for most. Highs at 7 to 11C.
