Very warm Bank Holiday
Fair start to September

Issued: 1000hrs Friday 25th August 2017
Duty forecaster: Garry Nicholson

Fresher with showers during midweek

The Bank Holiday weekend will be dry, sunny and increasingly warm across England and Wales. Temperatures by Monday afternoon are likely to climb above 25C in central and south-east England. Rain will develop across north-western Britain and Ireland, bringing a change to fresher and showery weather into midweek. We expect dry and warm weather to return at the start of September as high pressure rebuilds.

Monday 28/08/17
A dry, sunny and very warm Bank Holiday for much of England & Wales. Sunshine turning hazy as cloud builds from the west. Fronts moving in from the Atlantic bring persistent rain to Ireland & Scotland, heaviest over western hills, sinking slowly south through the day, but only encroaching slowly into north-west England by late afternoon or evening. Freshening south-westerly winds. 15 to 18C north, but up to 23 to 27C south & east.

Tuesday 29/08/17
A cold front passes southwards overnight into Tuesday, bringing a fragmenting band of rain to central & western Britain. Some rain or drizzle may affect southern England into the daytime, where skies will stay cloudy. Brighter for northern & western areas, with sunny spells, but also showers, which may be frequent for Scotland & Northern Ireland. Breezy and feeling fresher, 15 to 19C north, up to a humid 22 to 25C south-east.

Wednesday 30/08/17
A fresh westerly pattern continues, with sunshine and showers likely. Showers most frequent toward the north & west, locally heavy across the Scottish mountains. Central Britain may escape often dry, sunshine best toward the east. A chance that the remnants of a previous front may bring some rain to the south-east. A fresh breeze in the north, and feeling cool, 14 to 17C. Lighter winds south, reaching 18 to 21C in the south.

Thursday 31/08/17
Pressure is likely to build from the south-west, bringing settled weather for many later in the week. A few showers for Scotland, perhaps north-west England, but central and southern regions should be dry with sunshine. A light westerly breeze, although quite fresh in the north. Highs 16 to 22C.

Friday 01/09/17
High pressure centred across England & Wales should bring a fair end to the week. Increasingly sunny, and feeling warmer. Partly cloudy in the north-west. Light winds for many. Starting cool. Highs 17 to 23C.

Saturday 02/09/17
High pressure is expected to remain across the British Isles, with plenty of dry and warm weather. A freshening easterly breeze in the south. Highs 18 to 23C.
