Week ahead - August 27, 2017
Mixed midweek
Fresher, a few showers

Issued: 1000hrs Sunday 27th August 2017
Duty forecaster: Garry Nicholson

Dry start to September for many

A weakening cold front passes south during Tuesday, bringing fresher conditions to much of the country, although the far south-east will briefly stay warm. A mixed spell in midweek, with patchy rain or showers, but also plenty of dry weather. By the end of the week, high pressure is likely to bring a run of dry and bright days to start September, although a chance that some rain affects the far south-east.

Wednesday 30/08/17
Slack pressure across the British Isles and the remnants of previous fronts may result in a generally cloudy day. Outbreaks of rain or drizzle possible, but may amount to very little for many places. However, locally across central areas, a chance that rain may linger for several hours. Bright and breezy in the north, with frequent showers for western Scotland, and scattered showers elsewhere. Highs 15 to 19C, locally warmer.

Thursday 31/08/17
Pressure is likely to build from the south-west. A bright day is likely, although showers are possible for northern & western areas, locally heavy, but most should be light and well scattered, perhaps very few reaching eastern England. Sunny spells. A moderate westerly breeze, and feeling fresh. Top temperatures 16 to 20C, perhaps 22C in the east.

Friday 01/09/17
High pressure extends across the country, bringing a fair day with good amounts of sunshine. Mostly light winds, although a fresh easterly breeze may develop on southern coasts. North-western areas may be rather cloudy. Starting cool, but becoming pleasantly warm, reaching highs of 17 to 22C.

Saturday 02/09/17
Most likely staying fair for all, with high pressure residing across Britain and Ireland. Lots of sunshine. A small chance that low pressure over northern France may pivot back toward south-east England, bringing a risk of rain here. An easterly wind in the south, otherwise winds light. Highs 17 to 22C.

Sunday 03/09/17
High pressure likely to remain in charge, maintaining dry weather, especially northern areas. Again, a chance that low pressure over Europe may influence the south of Britain with a small risk of rain here. Highs 18 to 23C.

Monday 04/09/17
Staying largely dry beneath high pressure. A chance of low pressure around the Netherlands influencing south-east England, bringing cloud and patchy rain. Highs 17 to 23C.
