Fair weather later in week

This weekend will stay largely dry across central & southern Britain, whilst some showery rain affects northern areas. By Monday, rain turns persistent across the north-west, but southern Britain should see a dry and warm Bank Holiday. Midweek becomes cooler for a time, with sunshine and showers, improving later in the week.

Sunday 27/08/17
High pressure across southern Britain brings a fair day to much of England & Wales. Good spells of sunshine, best around coasts in the afternoon. A few drizzly showers possible in the north-west. Fronts spreading from the Atlantic bring a risk of patchy rain for Northern Ireland and western Scotland, although areas east of the Highlands should stay dry. A freshening south-westerly breeze. Highs 17 to 25C, warmest south-east.

Monday 28/08/17
A zone of persistent rain affects Ireland & northern Britain, heaviest over the hills in the north-west, sinking slowly south through the day, with some rain reaching Wales and perhaps the Midlands later. Ahead of the rain, expect warm sunshine for the south, turning hazy across central & south-western areas. Rain clears to showers in the far north. A brisk south-westerly wind. 15 to 19C north & west, 22 to 26C south & east.

Tuesday 29/08/17
A cold front passes southwards overnight into Tuesday, bringing a weakening band of rain to central areas. Some rain may affect southern England into the daytime, where it likely to stay cloudy. Brightening skies for northern & western areas, with sunny spells, but also showers, which may be frequent for Scotland & Northern Ireland, spreading from the west. Breezy and feeling fresh, highs 15 to 22C, locally warmer far south-east.

Wednesday 30/08/17
A fresh westerly pattern continues, with sunshine and showers likely. Showers most frequent toward the north & west, locally heavy across the Scottish mountains. The south-east of England may escape mainly dry. Breezy, although the wind not as strong as previous days. Feeling cool, especially in the north, only 14 to 17C, but reaching 20C in the south.

Thursday 31/08/17
Pressure is likely to build from the south-west, bringing settled weather for many later in the week. A few showers for Scotland, perhaps north-west England, but central and southern regions should be dry with sunshine. A light westerly breeze, although quite fresh in the north. Highs 16 to 22C.

Friday 01/09/17
High pressure centred across England & Wales should bring a fair end to the week. Increasingly sunny, and feeling warmer. Partly cloudy in the north-west. Light winds for many. Starting cool. Highs 17 to 23C.
