Becoming cooler
Most rain in west

Issued: 0800 Tuesday 13th December 2016
Duty forecaster: Simon Keeling

Most rain to the west and tending to turn cooler through the weekend

Murky, mild and damp conditions over the coming days with most of the rain affecting western areas. Dry in many eastern parts, except for the spots of drizzle mostly on high ground. Into the weekend pressure is going to be building and this increases the risk of fog. Turning cooler as well and this cooler weather lasts into the early stages of next week.

Friday 16/12/16
A slack pressure flow over the UK and Ireland on Friday. There will be plenty of cloud around again, with some fog patches too. Rather a murky day with low cloud shrouding the hills. A front affects western Scotland ,western Wales and western England bringing rain here. Drier over much of Ireland, although some patchy rain in the east. Cooler for many at 6 to 9C, but as high as 11C in southern England.

Saturday 17/12/16
Pressure remains high on Saturday although still with the remains of fronts over much of England and Wales. This gives low cloud and drizzle for many, although drier air should start to bring some brightness to the east. Drier overall in central and northern Scotland as well as much of Ireland. Highs at 5 to 10C.

Sunday 18/12/16
High pressure remains on Sunday. It is likely to be rather murky day again through England, Wales and southern Scotland. Fog may be reluctant to clear some places, with further low cloud and mist affecting coasts and hills. Some brighter spells in Ireland and most of Scotland, although rain affects northern Scotland. Highs at 5 to 9C so feeling cooler for all.

Monday 19/12/16
A ridge of high pressure extends through the UK and Ireland on Monday. This brings broken cloud and drier weather into many areas. A breezier day in the south and this wind making it feel cooler. Temperatures at 5 to 7C.

Tuesday 20/12/16
High pressure remains over the UK and Ireland on Tuesday. It may be a frosty and foggy start to the day for some with many areas tending to be dry with bright or sunny spells developing. Cloud and some drizzle in northwest Scotland. Highs at 4 to 7C.

Wednesday 21/12/16
Much uncertainty in the forecast for Wednesday. Current thoughts are that it may become milder in a southwesterly wind with drizzle and rain mostly affecting the west. Highs at 8 to 12C.
