Becoming cooler and quieter next week after Christmas storms fade

father Christmas faces a windy ride into the UK and Ireland on Christmas Eve. It stays breezy through Christmas Day but is going to be very mild. Things then turning quieter and cooler into next week. Higher pressure builds bringing cooler conditions to eastern areas. In the west low cloud and drizzle is likely on the hills and coasts although feeling milder. Some early hints of more cold weather arriving for the New Year.
