A stormy few days in the far north of Britain and an unsettled start to the week. High pressure builds in for mid week as it turns cooler. Later in the week it appears to turn much milder and more unsettled. Frosts during mid week may be confined to parts of England.

Dry across much of Britain on Tuesday with sunny spells. Windy in the north with more in the way of cloud. Dry overnight with a risk of frost across England and Wales. Expect high temperatures of 5 to 7C.

Wednesday 28/12/16
Cool but milder across the north. It looks fair and dry across the country with sunny spells for England and Wales, more cloudy in the north. A cold night with a widespread frost across England and Wales. Highs of 5 to 9C.

A bit milder with lost of cloud and some patchy rain across western and northern areas. Dry and sunnier across central and eastern areas. Heavier rain to affect Scotland, Wales, north west England and Northern Ireland overnight. Highs of 6 to 10C.

Cloudy, windy and quite mild for most with sporadic outbreaks of rain at times. Gales to affect Scotland with gusts to 70 mph. Rain affects the north and the west tonight - dry to the south. Highs of 7 to 12C.

A band of rain may be working it's way south across England. Colder to the north with scattered showers, these wintry over the Highlands. Continued mild for England and Wales. Highs of 5 to 12C.

New Year's Day 01/01/17
An area of rain, with snow over the northern hills may run in across Scotland and northern England. A windy day for most with Wales along with central and southern parts of England dry. Expect highs of 3 to 7C.
