UK Forecast - August 24, 2018
Showers, then heavy rain later
Winds easing temporarily

Saturday
A weak ridge of high pressure moves across Britain and Ireland from the west, giving most parts a quieter day but an occluding frontal trough will push east into Ireland overnight. Still the risk of showers, especially in the north and west of England, Scotland and Wales and Northern Ireland but for many parts a dry day with some sunshine breaking though. Still quite a stiff northwesterly breeze in exposed coastal areas at first but the wind will ease gradually during the day. Highest temperatures 13 to 16C in the north and west, 17 to 18C for the Midlands and up to 20C in the southeast.

Saturday Night
A dry night across much of the British Isles with just a gentle breeze, although high cloud will spill over from the west. However, rain, some heavy, will move east across Ireland overnight to reach Western Scotland and possibly, West Wales and the southwest of England by or soon after dawn with the wind strengthening from the south or southeast. Overnight lows typically 6 to 8C in the north and west of Britain but again possibly a shade lower in well-sheltered spots, holding on into double figures in the east and south and under the cloud and rain.

Sunday
The occluding frontal trough over Ireland will move east across the British Isles during the day, with low pressure tracking towards Northern Scotland. Rain, still heavy at times, will spread gradually to the rest of Scotland, England and Wales, most likely reaching easternmost part of England by around late afternoon. Drier, brighter weather with some sunshine following from the west into Ireland during the afternoon and possibly reaching western parts of England, Scotland and Wales later. The rain clears all parts on Sunday night with any showers eventually becoming confined to Western Scotland. Winds strengthen from around a southerly direction with the rain, touching near gale in exposed locations, before swinging to the west and moderating for a time as the wet weather moves away. Daytime highs 13 to 18C.

Monday
Low pressure over Northern Scotland will move away east, allowing a weak ridge of high pressure to transfer east across Southern Britain and Ireland. Early showers across Northern Ireland, Western Scotland, Northwest England and, perhaps, West Wales, will becoming confined gradually to Northwest Scotland. For remaining areas, a dry day and, after, rather a cloudy start, sunny spells will develop during the afternoon. Westerly winds will be fresh to strong across northern areas but lighter in the south. Highs 13 to 17C generally, locally 19 to 21C in the southeast.
