Rain giving way to showers
Becoming cooler and fresher generally

Thursday
Weather fronts sink southeastwards across England and Wales, heralding a transition to cooler, fresher conditions for all. Rain over Lincolshire, the Midlands and down towards the southwest at first will spread southeast during the morning with dry and brighter weather following on behind. Rain over Northwest Ireland and Southwest Scotland will push into Northern England and North Wales, ahead of a mix of sunny intervals and showers. Across Western Scotland the showers will be frequent and heavy but the east of Scotland will be mostly dry with a good deal of sunshine. Cool and breezy in the north, with strong winds for the west of Scotland, and fresher conditions starting to extend southeast. Daytime highs 13 to 15C in northern and western areas, around 19C in the Midlands, with the southeast hanging on to 22 or 23C.

Thursday Night
Fairly frequent and blustery showers, some heavy, will run into the north and west of Scotland and Northern Ireland. Some showers will also feed into Northwest England, Wales and perhaps north-facing coasts of Devon and Cornwall. Much of England and Wales, however, will have a dry night with clear spells. Overnight lows 6 to 9C in the north and west, 10 to 13C in the south.

Friday
Low pressure near to Norway, combined with high pressure to the southwest of Britain and Ireland, will maintain a relatively cool northwesterly airstream. Brisk and blustery west to northwest winds will continue to bring showers to Western Scotland, Northern Ireland, Northwest England and the north and west of Wales. Elsewhere any showers will be lighter and less frequent with more in the way of sunshine. Highest temperatures 10 to 13C in the north and west, near 17C in the Midlands and locally 19C in p to 23 to 25C in the east and south.

Saturday
The northwesterly flow across the British Isles will weaken gradually as a weak ridge of high pressure builds from the west. Showers will continue to affect the north and west of Scotland, Northern Ireland, the north and west of England and Wales and, perhaps, the Midlands. For many parts, though, only an isolated shower with sunny spells developing. Northwesterly winds, fresh to strong in exposed places, will ease gradually. Highs 10 to 13C in the north and west, 16 to 18C in the south and east.
