Warm next week

Issued: 0900 Thursday 11th May 2017
Duty forecaster: Simon Keeling

Mixed with rain for some, most in the west, then warm next week

Changing weather through this weekend as low pressure brings bands of showery rain eastwards and northwards through the country. Turning warmer later i the week across more southern areas.

For the weather for the next few days click here

Sunday 14/5/17
A southwesterly flow affects the UK and Ireland on Sunday. An occluded front clears eastern England and Scotland in the morning bringing rain here at first. More broken cloud and a few bright spells but also scattered showers follow from the west. More persistent rain reaches southern Ireland later with the winds picking up here too. Highs at 14 to 18C.

Monday 15/5/17
The southwesterly flow continues through Monday. A front brings rain east through nearly all areas, although the far south of England not seeing much. Rather a lot of low cloud and mist affecting western and southern coasts. A fresh to strong southwest wind perhaps reaching gale force in the west. Highs at 15 to 19C.

Tuesday 16/5/17
Low pressure north of the UK on Tuesday with higher pressure to the south. The southwest flow will be continuing with fronts passing eastwards bringing cloud and outbreaks of rain to many. Central and southern areas are likely to be drier and brighter although low cloud and some fog affecting western and southern coasts and hills. Tops at 14C in northern Scotland, 22C in southeast England.

Wednesday 17/5/17
Indications are that the moist southwest flow persists on Wednesday. Fronts may bring rain across Ireland and to the west and south of Scotland as well as northwest England and Wales. More southern and eastern parts of England and Scotland tending to be dry with sunny spells here. Highs at 14C in northern Scotland but a very warm 23C in southern England.

Thursday 18/5/17
The flow may turn more northwesterly through Thursday although pressure remains fairly high. There will be some showers in northern and western Scotland as well as the north and west of Ireland. Drier further south and east with sunny spells. Highs near 9C in northern Scotland, 16C in southern England.

Friday 19/5/17
A ridge of high pressure brings a northwesterly wind through the UK and Ireland again on Friday. A fair day with sunny spells, although some showers in the north and west, although these generally light. Highs at 14 to 18C.
