High pressure finally building
It will be a rather cool week ahead, feeling chilly in brisk winds at times, but pleasant in the sunshine where sheltered. A mix of sunny spells and April showers, some heavy with hail. An improving outlook later in the week.

Wednesday 17/04/24 A cool north to northwesterly breeze. Many places starting dry and bright with sunshine best in central and southern areas. Showers around coasts in northern Scotland and Wales, locally grazing eastern England. A scattering of showers then forming more widely inland into the afternoon, brief local heavy bursts with hail, mainly toward the east. Drizzly rain may move into Northern Ireland. Highs 9 to 12C.
Thursday 18/04/24 High pressure toward the west builds a little over Britain and Ireland. Weak fronts drifting around this high bring patchy drizzly rain and low cloud to west and northwestern areas. Best sunshine toward the east and south, isolated showers. A light west to northwesterly breeze. Slight frost at first. Highs 10 to 14C.
Friday 19/04/24 Northwesterly breezes prevail, likely stronger than Thursday, feeling cool especially in the north. A mix of sunshine and showers, fairly cloudy. Sunshine best toward the south. Highs 9 to 12C north, up to 15C southern England.
Saturday 20/04/24 High pressure expands across the country. Many places dry with good amounts of sun. Cloud and patchy rain in northwest Scotland. Slight frost at first. Light winds and feeling warmer. Highs 12 to 16C.
Sunday 21/04/24 High pressure brings settled conditions. Mostly dry with broken cloud and sun. Some early mist and slight frost. Light winds. Highs 13 to 18C.
Monday 22/04/24 Likely to stay dry for most places. Risk of local showers in the southeast if an easterly breeze increases. Warmest and sunniest in the west. Highs 13 to 18C.
