Issued: Saturday 14th May 2022 Duty forecaster: Alexi Venerus
May remains consistent with continuing with a drier trend, though next week will elevate those rainfall totals for many with frequent heavy showers and rain moving in. There does look to be a progression and transition, albeit gradual, move towards a more unsettled scene as we head through the first half of June.
*16/5/22 - 23/5/22* High pressure to the east. Broad deep low pressure over the North Atlantic. Warm to very warm temperatures due to a southerly flow. Largely unsettled with the risk of thunderstorms.
*23/5/22 - 30/5/22* High pressure moves over the North Atlantic. Low pressure over Scandinavia. A more westerly flow. A cooler week with temperatures pull back to around average. A drier week though with the risk of showery rain at times.
*30/5/22 - 6/6/22* Weak high pressure moves more over the British Isles. A general westerly wind flow. Staying overall drier though with showery rain in the north and west. Temperatures around or slightly above average.
*6/5/22 - 13/5/22* A trough moves over the UK. Higher pressure over the North Atlantic. A more unsettled week of weather. Rain to affect particularly the north. Tending to be drier further west and southwest. A cooler week with temperatures around or below average.
