Risk of rain in south early next week

A cool easterly pattern will persist over the next few days, as high pressure is once again centred over Scandinavia. There is a risk of some rain in the south early next week, then the pattern is likely to change - dry conditions in the south, but westerly winds bring occasional rain to the north-west.

Sunday 23/10/16
An easterly pattern affects Britain and Ireland. Dry for many places, with broken cloud and occasional sun, generally best in the west & north-west. A few showers are likely along North Sea coasts, mainly north-east England & eastern Scotland. Some rain may encroach into the far south-west later. A fresh breeze along English Channel coasts, but fairly light winds elsewhere. Local morning mist patches will soon clear. Cool, highs 10 to 13C.

Monday 24/10/16
Uncertainty regarding the progress of a front across southern Britain. Outbreaks of rain are likely to extend across southern counties of England & Wales, and may turn persistent for several hours. Areas of rain or drizzle also likely to affect east & north-eastern regions. An easterly breeze continues. Driest and brightest toward the north-west of Britain & Ireland. Rather cool, particularly where rain persists, 10 to 13C.

Tuesday 25/10/16
Frontal rain should clear from southern England, although may linger for a time in the south-east early in the day. A benign pressure pattern is likely to influence the country. A murky start for many places, some fog patches. Generally cloudy, although some sunshine may break through. Light winds overall. Slightly milder, highs 11 to 15C.

Wednesday 26/10/16
A cool start, with local fog patches in the south. Most likely dry and bright for much of England & Wales, best sunshine toward the east & south. Fronts approach Scotland & Ireland from the Atlantic, bringing an increasing risk of rain for the north-west, plus a freshening breeze here. Light winds in the south. Highs 12 to 16C.

Thursday 27/10/16
High pressure is expected to influence southern areas, whilst fronts affect the north-west. Dry for many, but some rain may turn persistent in western Scotland & Northern Ireland. Some showery rain may extend across central & northern England. Light winds in the south, risk of early fog. Highs 11 to 15C.

Friday 28/10/16
Little change, with high pressure likely to reside over southern areas, bringing early fog, but a largely dry and bright day. Fronts toward the far north may see some rain for Scotland, but uncertainty about the southward extent of this rain. Highs 12 to 15C.
