Brightest in the west

A strong area of high pressure centred over Scandinavia and to the north of Britain will bring a persistent easterly wind to the British Isles over the week ahead. Cool temperatures, and showers at times, these most frequent in the east.

Sunday 09/10/16
High pressure centred to the north. Variable cloud and some sunshine, best toward the west. A few showers are likely to drift off the North Sea into eastern districts of England. A cool east to north-easterly breeze affects England & Wales. Light winds in Scotland, which may allow some mist patches to form before dawn, although will clear in the morning. Top temperatures 13 to 16C.

Monday 10/10/16
A cool easterly pattern continues. Showers are again expected to drift into eastern counties, and locally these may give frequent rain. Drier and brighter toward the west, and also across much of Scotland. Some sunshine at times. Early mist in glens of Scotland. Chilly in the breeze. Temperatures 12 to 15C.
 

Tuesday 11/10/16
Little change to the overall pattern, with an easterly wind dominating. The wind may be stronger than previous days, and this may drive frequent showers from east to west across the country. Some possible squally bursts, most frequent in the east. Brighter and drier toward the west. Highs 11 to 14C, but feeling colder.
 

Wednesday 12/10/16
Another day of brisk east to north-easterly winds and showers. Rain most frequent toward the east. Brightest in the west & north-west. Feeling chilly. Temperatures just 10 to 14C.

Thursday 13/10/16
A continued east or north-easterly flow brings a similar story of showers in the east & south-east, but brighter weather in the west. Cool again at 10 to 13C.

Friday 14/10/16
Expect showers again toward the east, and brighter skies in the west. Staying rather chilly, highs 10 to 13C.
