A mixed week with early rain, then cooler with a few showers later

A mixed weekend and early part of next week. Monday shows the potential for more persistent rain affecting northern and western parts of the country. Fairly damp for some on Tuesday too, although the potential for some very warm weather in southeastern England with drier weather to the north. Towards the end of the week there will be further showers and it is likely to be feeling cooler.

Monday 15/5/17
wind and rain through Ireland and into western and northern parts of the UK. Windy here to with the rain heavy at times on western coasts and hills. Drier across southeast England with a fair amount of cloud but some brighter spells here as well. Gales may affect Ireland and western coasts and hills. Highs at 15 to 19C.


Tuesday 16/5/17
Low pressure to the northwest of Scotland with high pressure to the south. The moist southwest flow persists with fronts bringing rain through Ireland, Wales and northern England. Brighter in northern and western Scotland although some rain in the south of Scotland. Much of southeast England stays dry with some bright spells here. Highs at 22C in southeast England, 15C in northern Scotland.


Wednesday 17/5/17
Fronts edge south through the Midlands and southern England on Wednesday. These bring outbreaks of rain throughout the day. Sunny spells and showers will be affecting areas to the north of the front wit most of the showers in Scotland and Northern Ireland. Winds in northern Scotland too. Highs at 14 to 22C.
 


Thursday 18/5/17
The flow turns more northwesterly through Thursday. There will be showers, most in the north and west. The showers could become heavy at times and perhaps merge into longer spells of rain in the north. More southern areas should see fewer showers with sunny spells. Tops near 12C in northern Scotland, 18C in southeast England.


Friday 19/5/17
A trough passes east on Friday. This brings showers to many areas with some lengthier periods of rain too. Drier weather may follow from the west with sunny spells. Highs at 9C in northern Scotland, 16C in southern England.

Saturday 20/5/17
High pressure to the west with low pressure to the east. A cooler northerly wind affects all areas bringing dry conditions and sunny spells in the west. A few showers in the east. Highs at 9 to 15C.
