Sunshine, showers east
Frosty Monday morning

Sunday
Showers will affect east and central England, spreading inland from North Sea coasts. Some heavy bursts with hail and isolated thunder possible. Snow over high ground on the North York Moors, eastern Pennines and Borders. Meanwhile, west & north-western regions will stay dry all day with lots of sunshine. A cold northeasterly wind for the south & east, but lighter winds Scotland and Ireland. Top temperatures only 7 to 10C, and feeling closer to zero in the wind.

Sunday night
A few showers will continue around eastern coasts, but most places will be dry overnight. A east to northeasterly breeze affects coasts in the south & east. Skies generally clear and winds falling light inland, allowing a widespread frost to form, coldest in west & northern regions. Lows widely 0 to 3C urban areas, but dipping sub-zero rurally, -2 to -5C in sheltered spots of Wales and Scotland.

Monday
An easterly wind influences the country, maintaining a chilly pattern for all. Showers in eastern coastal districts, drifting inland into central areas through the day. Sleet or snow over high ground of eastern Scotland and north-east England. Possible hail. Generally dry for western areas with plenty of sunshine, although a few showers may move off the Irish Sea into Northern Ireland. Some rain may affect the far west of Ireland. Highs 8 to 11C.

Tuesday
Confidence of detail is low: An area of rain is forecast to pivot across central and eastern England, later eastern Scotland as low pressure drifts northwards over the North Sea. Windy with possible gales on eastern coasts. Sleet or wet snow over high ground. Clusters of showers further west, mixed with spells of sunshine. Many western areas of Britain and much of Ireland may well escape dry all day. Staying cool, highs just 7 to 10C.
