Thundery weekend?
Hot then a little cooler

Issued: 0900 Monday 25th June 2018
Duty forecaster: Dr. Simon Keeling

Hot start, thundery weekend and becoming cooler

The weather is set to stay fair through the first part of this week. There will be plenty of sunshine around and it will be feeling very warm or even hot on some days. By the weekend there are hints of some thunderstorms arriving in the size of the UK and Ireland. These edge northwards into the early stages of next week and it probably becomes cooler too.

Thursday 28/6/18
High-pressure remains in control of the weather throughout Thursday. An easterly wind brings the risk of a few fog patches to eastern coast of England and Scotland. Most areas stay dry and sunny throughout the day. And isolated shower could affect the Grampians and Southern Uplands in the afternoon. Temperatures rising two around 22 to 28°C.

Friday 29/6/18
Friday is likely to be another hot day across many parts of the country with high-pressure sitting to the north of Scotland. A brisk easterly wind affects the far south of England. Some low cloud and missed all fog could drift onto eastern coasts. Overall the day will be sunny with the best of the sunshine in the west. Temperatures rising to 17°C on the cooler east coast, but up to 27°C degrees Celsius in more southern and western areas.

Saturday 30/6/18
For most the day will be fine with some good spells of sunshine although increasing amounts of cloud across southern parts of England, Wales and Ireland. Eastern coasts of England and Scotland may see low cloud at times. Temperatures will reach between 22 and 29°C, although again eastern coast will be cooler.

Sunday 1/7/18
High pressure to the north on Sunday with low pressure towards the south-west of the UK and Ireland. At the present time southern Ireland, Wales, and western parts of England seen more likely to see most of any rain. More northern and eastern areas are tending to be drier although with increasing cloud. Temperatures still reaching 28°C across across southern England and 25°C degrees Celsius in central Scotland but 19°C on the cooler east coast. Feeling humid.

Monday 2/7/18
There is much uncertainty at this time about how the weather develops into next week. At the present time we expect the southern half of the UK and Ireland to be affected by thunderstorms or rain. It is likely to be drier in Scotland, Northern England and Northern Ireland. However noticed that confidence is low. Remaining warmin the south with temperatures at 28°C, but cooler across more northern areas with temperatures nearer 17 or 18°C.

Tuesday 3/6/18
Uncertainty in the forecast again for Tuesday. Thunder-showers or thundery rain are again anticipated across the southern half of the UK and Ireland. More northern areas may well be dry and cool. Highs at 27°C in the south, 20°C in the north.
