Week ahead - March 13, 2017
Unsettled end to week
Dry start

Issued: 0900 Monday 13th March 2017
Duty forecaster: Simon Keeling

A fair start for many, then becoming more unsettled and cooler through the week

Plenty of dry weather around to start this week as high pressure remains to the south. Lower pressure to the north of Scotland will be bringing stronger winds and the risk of some rain and drizzle here. Indications are that by the end of the week the weather becomes more unsettled and windier for all. Probably feeling cooler too. Staying mixed into the early stages of next week.

Thursday 16/3/17
Pressure remains fairly high across the south of the country on Thursday. A cloudy southwest airmass affects much of Ireland and western Scotland as well as Wales and western England. Drizzle on the coasts and hills, but this afding with the cloud breaking. Some bright or sunny spells will be forming too, the best of them in the east where it is going to be dry. Highs at 10 to 15C.

Friday 17/3/17
A more unsettled day on Friday as pressure drops. Fronts will be passing eastwards taking cloud and periods of rain with them. The far south should be drier. Windy for many, especially in the west. Cooler too at 6 to 12C.

Saturday 18/3/17
Low pressure close to Scotland on Saturday. It is going to be a breezy day with heavy showers and a few bright spells in Scotland, Northern and western Ireland and northwest England as well as Wales. More eastern and southern areas are likely to be brighter and drier, although there may be early rain in the far south. Highs at 9 to 14C.

Sunday 19/3/17
Low pressure is to the east of the country on Sunday The flow turns to the northwest bringing sunshine and showers to all. The showers could be heavy with the risk of some wintry showers over high ground. Breezy again with tops at 8 to 12C.

Monday 20/3/17
A ridge of high pressure building through Ireland and the UK on Monday. This brings drier weather with sunny spells, although always cloudier in the west where some drizzle or patchy rain may affect Ireland. Tops at 8 to 12C.

Tuesday 21/3/17
Another area of low pressure passes east on Tuesday taking a front with it. This brings rain but then clears to sunny spells and mostly dry weather. Highs at 9 to 12C.
