Issued: 1005 January 15, 2017
Duty forecaster: John Ejdowski

Frosty nights

After widespread rain on Monday, high pressure builds in and will give a good deal of dry weather for most parts of Britain. Sunshine may be limited with lots of cloud expected across the country. Temperatures will always be mildest in the north and coldest in the south with all parts cold by the end of the forecast period.

Wednesday 18/01/17
Staying chilly across southern England and Wales and mildest in the north. Mostly cloudy across Britain today but a few sunnier spells too. In the far west still a few spots of rain and drizzle. Some rain may affect the south east of England in the night while a patchy frost may affect the north. Expect high temperatures of 3 to 9C.

Thursday 19/01/17
Today temperatures are above normal in the north but below normal in the south. A lot of cloud again today with spots of rain in the south. Sunnier across eastern Scotland and north east England. Cold where skies are clear overnight with a risk of frost. Highs of 4 to 8C.

Friday 20/01/17

Saturday 21/01/17
Cold into Saturday. Chiefly dry with varying cloud and some sunshine. A widespread and locally severe frost develops overnight along with a few dense freezing fog patches. Highs of 2 to 5C.

Sunday 22/01/17
Very cold with snow showers around western and eastern coasts. Fair and dry inland with any patches of freezing fog lifting. Another very cold, frosty night and we may see an area of rain turn to snow as it runs in across south west England but confidence is very low on this at present. Highs of 0 to 3C.

Monday 23/01/17
Outbreaks of rain may affect Northern Ireland and Scotland with some snow over the hills. Across England and Wales it looks dry with sunnier spells after clearance of frost and locally dense fog patches. Expect highs of 1 to 4C.
