Rain & gales in west
Drier east & south

Issued: 0530hrs Friday 9th September 2016
Duty forecaster: Simon Keeling

Gales and rain in the west, mostly dry and breezy east and south

Good morning,

Quite a cloudy morning across much of England and Wales, and breezy too. The cloud may be thick enough to produce an odd spot of rain over hills in the south. Generally remaining drier elsewhere, perhaps with a few brighter spells developing to the lee of high ground in eastern England and also over southeast England.

An area of more persistent rain affects Ireland in the morning, some of it heavy with gales here too. This rain then reaches western Scotland, western Wales and southwest England by the evening, with drier and brighter weather following into Ireland.

The rain band then edges eastwards overnight, reaching East Anglia and southern England by the morning. Drier to the north and west with some clearer skies developing.
