A cold weekend with a risk of sleet and snow showers

The weather remains cooler through this week with more significant cold weather hitting the country at the weekend. There could be some sleet and snow showers for many eastern and northern areas on Saturday and Sunday with a strong wind leading to a significant windchill. Temperatures starting to recover next week, although staying cool.

Friday 26/11/21
A deep area of low pressure passing to the north of Scotland on Friday. This brings a windy day to all parts of the UK and Ireland with gales. Rain, sleet and snow on Scotland, most of the snow falling on high ground, but there may be some developing at low levels in central and northern areas too. The area of rain passing south through the day, colder air being dragged in behind with some heavy showers for Ireland, these turning wintry on hills. The wintry showers reach the high ground of Wales and northern England in the afternoon. Fewer showers in the afternoon to the south. After briefer, milder temperatures, cold air returns with highs at 5 to 9C, although much colder later.


Saturday 27/11/21
An area of low pressure over East Anglia on Saturday brings a windy day with a risk of Gales for many areas. Persistent rain, sleet and snow showers will be affecting eastern coast of Scotland and England. Further west more showers are expected in western Scotland and the west of Wales as well as south-west England and eastern Ireland. Other areas are likely to be brighter and drier but feeling bitterly cold in the wind. Highs at 2 to 6C, but feeling below freezing for all in the wind.

Sunday 28/11/21
Low pressure remains east of the UK on Sunday with the ridge of high pressure building across Ireland. There will be further showers affecting eastern coasts of Scotland and England, and again these could fall as rain, sleet or snow. Feeling cold. Dry and bright it to the west although always some showers affecting western Wales and Southwest England. Cloud increasing in Ireland during the afternoon. Another cold day with highs as 2 to 5C.

Monday 29/11/21
A weak front passes east on Monday taking an area of showery rain with it. A few bright spells will be following from the west. Highs at 2 to 5C, but turning milder from the west with 10C in Ireland.

Tuesday 30/11/21
Fronts passing eastwards through he UK and Ireland on Tuesday. These brings coud and rain with them. Mild for many, but turning cooler in the far north of Scotland. Highs at 10 to 12C.

Wednesday 1/12/21
Another breezy day with a cooling northwest wind. Dry and bright in southern areas, but showers or longer spells of rain to the north. Highs at 3 to 8C.
