Week ahead - November 03, 2017
Wet in west Tuesday
Often dry for many

Issued: 1000hrs Friday 3rd November 2017
Duty forecaster: Garry Nicholson

A lot of cloud, some fog, slight frosts

It will be a cool weekend, with some heavy rain in central & south-eastern England. Showery in the north-west, with snow over the mountains. Monday morning will start with frost. Fronts advancing in from the Atlantic by Monday night into Tuesday bring a threat of prolonged heavy rain to western Britain. Things should then become quieter again by midweek onward.

Monday 06/11/17
High pressure across Britain brings a dry and sunny day for many places. Early fog patches possible in low-lying areas. Cloud will tend to thicken from the west as fronts move in from the Atlantic. Rain develops for the north-west of Ireland and western Scotland by afternoon and evening, turning heavy. Strengthening south-westerly winds across the west & north. A slight frost at first, temperatures rising slowly to 8 to 11C.

Tuesday 07/11/17
Heavy rain affects western Britain for many hours, and may persist for much of the day. A risk of local flooding. Across the Scottish mountains it may turn to snow on the back edge of the system. Rain may gradually drift into central areas, but it may not reach eastern counties until night. Brighter with showers for Ireland. Strong south to south-westerly winds, gusting gale force in exposed spots in the west, later veering westerly. Highs 8 to 12C.

Wednesday 08/11/17
Detail is uncertain during midweek. A weakening front passes slowly eastwards, and may leave the remnants of previous rain for central & eastern Britain. Fairly cloudy overall, with some brighter spells breaking through. Showers around western coasts, wintry on the Scottish mountains. Winds becoming light. Highs 7 to 11C.

Thursday 09/11/17
Pressure is likely to build, bringing fairly quiet weather to most places. A touch of frost and some morning fog patches in central areas. Fairly cloudy again, but a little sun should develop. Patchy rain may return to the north-west. Highs 8 to 12C.

Friday 10/11/17
Low confidence: A freshening westerly breeze may bring outbreaks of rain, mainly toward the north-west. Central & southern areas should remain largely dry. Fairly cloudy, possible fog in the morning. Highs 8 to 11C.

Saturday 11/11/17
Pressure likely to remain fairly high. Weakening fronts produce a little rain locally, but many places may stay dry. A lot of cloud, and some fog. Highs 8 to 12C.
