Cold with sunshine and showers, turning wetter and windier next week

A chilly few days ahead with showers, some of them heavy and a risk of frosts overnight. Signs of a change next week as the weather has the potential to turn more unsettled, thanks to the jet stream developing overhead. There is a risk of strong winds and heavy rain at times.

Sunday 02/05/21
A weak ridge of high pressure builds through Sunday. There will be broken cloud and some bright or sunny spells at first. Cloud is going to be increasing with some showers forming and these will be continuing into the afternoon. Most showers in Scotland, northeast England and southern England too. A milder day for most with highs of 7 to 15C.
 

Holiday Monday 03/05/21
An area of low pressure is expected to be passing eastwards through the British Isles on Monday. This brings strong winds and rain, heavy at times. The focus for most of the rain is likely across southern and western areas. Highs at 6C in the north, more widely 9 to 13C.
 

Tuesday 04/05/21
Low pressure remains close on Tuesday, pulling away to the east. Cloud and some outbreaks of rain in Ireland, Wales and parts of central England. Probably drier with more broken cloud and some sunshine in southeast England and Scotland. Highs at 7C in the north, 13C in the south.

Wednesday 05/05/21
A northwesterly flow on Wednesday as the British Isles lie between two areas of low pressure. A rather mixed day with sunshine and showers. Showers mainly to the north and west. Highs at just 8 to 12C.

Thursday 06/05/21
Low pressure over Ireland with fronts pushing eastwards. This brings some heavy periods of rain and a risk of gales to many. Perhaps staying drier to the north. Highs around 7 or 8C to the north, more widely 12 to 15C.

Friday 07/05/21
Low pressure passes slowly eastward over England bringing further rain to southern parts of the UK. Cooler but brighter with showers to the north and west. Highs rainge from 7 to 15C.
