Cold with sunshine and showers, turning wetter and windier next week

A chilly few days ahead with showers, some of them heavy and a risk of frosts overnight. Signs of a change next week as the weather has the potential to turn more unsettled, thanks to the jet stream developing overhead. There is a risk of strong winds and rain.

Saturday 1/5/21
A slack, northerly flow on Saturday. It is going to be another chilly day. Morning sunshine will be giving way to developing cloud, especially over high ground, with some showers developing during the morning. Further showers into the afternoon withe these being heavy and thundery in places. Most of the showers will be focussed over Wales and southern England as well as the northern Pennines and Scottish hills. Highs at 8 to 14C.


Sunday 2/5/21
A weak ridge of high pressure builds through Sunday. There will be broken cloud and some bright or sunny spells at first. Cloud is going to be increasing with some showers forming and these will be continuing into the afternoon. Most showers in Scotland, northeast England and southern England too. A milder day for most with tops of 9 to 15C.
 


Holiday Monday 3/5/21
An area of low pressure is expected to be passing eastwards through the British Isles on Monday. This brings strong winds and rain, heavy at times. The focus for most of the rain is likely across northern and western areas. Highs at 9 to 13C.

Tuesday 4/5/21
Low pressure remains close on Tuesday. Cloud and some outbreaks of rain in Ireland, Wales and much of central and southern England. Probably drier with more broken cloud and some sunshine in northern England and Scotland. Highs at 9C in northern Scotland, 15C in southern England.

Wednesday 5/5/21
A southwest flow with low pressure bringing a fair amount of cloud through Wednesday. Showery periods of rain, most over coasts and hills in the west and southern. A further areas of heavy rain and strong winds may affect Ireland later. Probably drier in northern Scotland. Tops at 11 to 15C.

Thursday 6/5/21
Low pressure over Ireland with fronts pushing eastwards. This brings some heavy periods of rain and a risk of gales to many. Highs around 9 to 14C.
