Week ahead - October 23, 2020
Unsettled
Yet mild

Issued: 0930 Friday 23rd October 2020
Duty forecaster: Alexi Venerus

A largely wet and windy weekend and week ahead but staying reasonably mild, particularly in the south

Expect an unsettled weekend and week following as Atlantic low pressure systems hit the UK and Ireland. They will bring rain, heavy and persistent at times, as well as strong to gale force winds on some days. Yet it wont feel exceedingly cold, particularly so in the south of England where it will be mild at times.

Monday 26/10/20
Low pressure tracks from west to east across Scotland on Monday which will see longer spells of rain across western Scotland and parts of southern Scotland through the day. A mix of sunny spells and showers elsewhere with most showers in the west. Turning drier across Ireland and Northern Ireland later on as a brief ridge builds in here. Breezy for a time for most but winds slacken off through the day. Highs at 10 to 14C.

Tuesday 27/10/20
A wet and windy start for the west but starting dry for most central and eastern areas before the rain spreads eastwards. Rain will reach easternmost areas later on in the afternoon. Winds in the west of Ireland strengthening to gale force strengths later on in the evening. High temperatures range from 9 to 14C.

Wednesday 28/10/20
Staying unsettled as low pressure remains west of Scotland. Bands of rain and showers passing eastwards, with heavy showers following to the west. Widespread gales are likely. Highs at 10 to 14C.

Thursday 29/10/20
Another unsettled day with high winds again. Rain expected to spread across Wales, central and southern England through the day although it will be mild down here. Showers affecting northern areas, heaviest and most persistent in the west. Highs at 8 to 16C.

Friday 30/10/20
Currently, it looks to be a wet day for many with persistent rain across Ireland, Northern Ireland, Wales, central and northern areas of England as well as southern areas of Scotland. Drier across the south of England and towards the north of Scotland, although if the low pressure track changes slightly then the rainfall distribution will also alter, so keep an eye on the forecast here for any changes. Winds ease towards the north on Friday but stay strong to near gale force across southern areas. A mild day across many areas except to central and northern Scotland with highs ranging from 14C in southern Scotland to 16C across southern and southeast England, but 9C in northern Scotland.

Saturday 31/10/20
It looks to be a dry start for many eastern areas although rain will soon spread in from the west through the day. Winds easing in the south on Saturday but temperatures in the south will stay reasonably mild with highs here at 15C. Cooler further north with highs here at 10C.
