Unsettled this week but things improving by the weekend as high pressure builds

Unsettled to close this week with the risk of rain, wind, sleet and some snow. Higher pressure is expected to be building into the weekend and next week. This brings drier conditions for most with temperatures close to average. Confidence in the detail is best described as low.

Thursday 15/2/18
A front clears eastern coasts early on Thursday morning taking overnight rain with it. Brighter and colder weather follows from the west with sunny spells for many, the best in the east. Showers may affect western coasts and hills, these falling as sleet, snow and hail. Most of the showers in northern and western Scotland. Winds to gale force in northwest Scotland. Highs at 4 to 8C although these slipping during the day as cooler air moves in.


Friday 16/2/18
Higher pressure builds to the east on Friday and affects much of the south of the country. This should bring broken cloud and mostly dry weather. Some cloud and showery rain in Ireland and the far west of Wales as well as western and central Scotland as a weak front affects these areas. Little changes during the day. Highs at 4 to 7C.
 


Saturday 17/2/18
Low confidence in the forecast from Saturday. It may be that an easterly flow develops in southern areas bringing a few spots of rain in the southeast. Some rain and drizzle in northwest Scotland as a warm front passes east. Drier elsewhere under a ridge iof high pressure. A risk of some morning fog patches, these slowly clearing. Highs at 3 to 6C.
 


Sunday 18/2/18
High pressure centred over the south of the UK and Ireland on Sunday. Fronts may bring some cloud and outbreaks of rain and drizzle to northwest Scotland. A few showers in the Channel. Mostly dry and fair with sunny spells, although some morning mist and fog patches in England and Wales. Tops at 4 to 7C.


Monday 19/2/18
High pressure may be over the UK and Ireland on Monday. This should be bringing a fair amount of dry weather with good spells of sunshine. Morning mist and fog patches only slowly clearing. The threat of some cloud and drizzle in more northern areas. Highs at 5 to 8C.

Tuesday 20/2/18
Confidence remains low in the detail. High pressure is expected to dominate bringing sunny spells and mostly dry weather. Highs at 3 to 7C.
