A mixed week of weather with temperatures close to average at the beginning but dropping as the week goes on

A mixed week of weather. Low pressure will generally be to the north of the country with higher pressure to the south. This brings some cloud and rain to the north, although tending to be drier and brighter in the south. Breezy at times in the north. Turner colder into the middle stages of the week, especially in Scotland.

Monday 14/01/19
An area of high pressure is centred to the southwest of the British Isles while an area of low pressure is centred to the northwest and extends a trough eastwards, to the north of Scotland. It will be a cloudy day in the west with spells of rain in western parts of Scotland and Ireland. Drier and brighter to the east and south. Highs at 6C in Scotland, 7C in Northern Ireland and 8C in England and Wales.


Tuesday 15/01/19
An area of low pressure is centred to the north of Scotland on Tuesday. It will be a cloudy and windy day in the north with prolonged spells of rain for the Northern Isles and northwestern Scotland. Rain will also affect northwestern parts of Ireland later in the afternoon as a front moves in from the Atlantic. A drier and brighter day in the south and east though there may be some low cloud around the south coast of England throughout the day. A milder day everywhere with highs at 8C in Scotland, 9C in Northern Ireland and Wales, and 10C in England.


Wednesday 16/01/19
High pressure over the Azores extends a ridge from the southwest over the UK and Ireland. A brighter day on Wednesday, away from the northwest coast of Scotland with some good spells of sunshine almost everywhere. There will be some light patchy rain in southern areas through the morning before a weak front clears over mainland Europe. It will be cloudy in the northwest of Scotland with a chance of light rain or drizzle persisting through the day. A cooler day with high temperatures of at 5 to 7C.


Thursday 17/01/19
A ridge of high pressure extends from the south across England and Scotland. Broken cloud across the country through the morning which will build from the west through the late afternoon as a front approaches western Ireland from the Atlantic. It will be a mostly dry day away from western coasts where there is a chance of drizzle. Highs at 4C in northern Scotland, 7C in southern England.


Friday 18/01/19
An area of low pressure is centred to the north of Scotland while high pressure lies to the south. It will be a cloudy, wet and windy day in the north; dry with broken cloud in the south. Precipitation will fall as snow on the hills of Scotland and the north of England. Showers will move into southern areas during the afternoon. Highs at 3 to 8C.

Saturday 19/01/19
High pressure is centred over northern Scotland on Saturday. It will be a mostly dry and bright day though some cloud and wintry showers could develop along eastern coasts exposed to the northerly wind. Highs at 0 to 8C.
