Wintry showers

Turning colder for a few days with snow for some

High pressure fades as a colder Arctic blast of air moves in from Sunday into Monday when snow is likely to fall, particularly further north. Strenghtening winds for some and blustery showers, some wintry, are expected through the week, before the signs of higher pressure tries to build back in again through next weekend.

Tuesday 06/04/21
High pressure west of Ireland with low pressure to the east of the UK will bring a brisk, cold northerly flow to the British Isles. Northern and eastern areas will feel especially cold where the wind-chill factor will be most acutely felt. Showers will also be prevalent, these falling as a mixture of rain, sleet and snow. These heaviest and most persistent across northern and central Scotland as well as over the hills. Highs around 2C in the north rising to 7C in the south.

Wednesday 07/04/21
Another chilly day on Wednesday. Sunshine and some showers about, these again are likely to be wintry with snow over higher ground and towards the north. A brief ridge of high pressure builds in from the southwest and push eastwards seeing showers largely die out for a time across parts of England and Wales. Further north, the next low pressure system moves in from the Atlantic bringing rain and strengthening winds to northwestern areas during the afternoon. Highs at 5 to 9C.

Thursday 08/04/21
Through Thursday low pressure tracks eastwards into the North Sea. A westerly flow prevails over northern areas with further outbreaks of sleet and rain for northern and western Scotland as well as for northwestern parts of Ireland, England and Wales. Staying mostly dry elsewhere though early sun tends to fade as cloud builds. High temperatures at 5 to 11C.

Friday 09/04/21
Low pressure to the west and southwest keeps conditions quite mixed across the UK and Ireland into Friday. Some uncertainty in the detail just yet but it seems as though outbreaks of rain will affect western and southwestern areas in particular. Staying drier with the best of any brightness to the northeast. Milder with highs of 7 to 13C.

Saturday 10/04/21
Again confidence in the detail is low but Saturday looks to see low pressure hanging around with further outbreaks of rain for many. Much of the rain to the northwest while more southern areas are likely to stay dry with good spells of sunshine. Highs at 6 to 13C.

Sunday 11/04/21
Models want to see higher pressure building to the west or southwest on Sunday as low pressure moves east. This introduces a colder northwest or northerly flow. Early rain clears east followed by a mixture of scattered showers and sunny spells. Cooler with highs of 5 to 12C.
